Reinstalling WAS

Hi all,

Our J2ee engine was giving some errors so we uninstalled and reinstalled it but even after that some important services are missing in the visual administrator list,so we are planning to re install WAS by uninstalling it.We have installed the Present WAS after installing the SAP CRM system.

1.Now can I uninstall the WAS and install it again afresh

2. If I do the reinstallation will it cause any problem for the existing CRM System.

3.our present was is ver 6.20, can i now directly install 6.40 after uninstalling the older one or should I first install 6.20 and then upgrade it to 6.4

Can someone help me out in this regard??.And suggestions for the same would be of great help.

thanks and regards,

HI Mike,

Thanks for your reply. In Your reply you mentioned that re-instaling The J2EE engine would suffice our requirement, earlier I did the same thing but I doubt the installation worked properly because

1. I cannot see our SAP system in the J2ee Engine administrator.

2.Services like Kernel are missing in the list of services.

3.I'm able to login to our J2EE engine only thru default port i.e; 3011 and if I try to login thru P4 port it is throwing Error(an Io exception).

4.I don't feel it got configured properly with the WAS.

Can u suggest any feasible solution for the above.

Thanks and Regards,

Hi VijaySai,

If i am correct with your question, my advice is,

0) Please take backup of the system before doing this.

1) Don't do anything your CRM System(ABAP)

2) Uninstall completly all the versions of J2ee(620,640)(very careful while uninstalling Select J2EE instance only)

3) don't do any upgrade of J2EE 620 to 640

4) Select J2EE Addin to ABAP System while installation

Hi Vijay,

My overall impression is that uninstallation for WAS (both ABAP and J2EE add-in) is not required if you are missing some services in Visual Admin. J2EE engine re-installation should be a sufficient way to fix this.

However, if you deside to proceed with WAS re-installation, here are my advices:

>1.Now can I uninstall the WAS and install it again afresh

Follow relevant SAP documentation for your database/OS as the re-installation procedure depends on the type of DB/OS.

>2. If I do the reinstallation will it cause any problem for the existing CRM System.

Needless to say that you should have the up-to-date full database backup and, likely, an OS backup. I would also suggest to rename/copy you existing CRM database to a new name/location.

>3.our present was is ver 6.20, can i now directly install 6.40 after uninstalling the older one or should I first install 6.20 and then upgrade it to 6.40

I would fix an issue with 6.20 at first and, then, proceed with upgrade to 6.40.

Mike
