Seems like this would be super easy to find out.  Have you tried?

Dear Nathan,

Yes, finding menu path or T-Code is super easy.

but let me extend my question!

What are the consequences of changing operative chart of account of a productive company?

Say for e.g. I am changing COA wef 1-Jan-2013 in that case how will documents get posted that I am posting in previous fiscal year after changing COA? and how to prepare Financial statements?

How to change FI integration with all other modules?

Answer to my question from technical point of view it is very very easy,

but this requires thinking from operation point of view also.

Chirag,

I guess Nathan sounds ironic since this changes reflects huge impacts. Some cases it is better create a new company code then make this change.

You will change account determination in all SAP Modules and lock old account postings. You must also consider developments.

Basically the steps are change Controlling Area, CoA Chart of Depreciaiton, CoA CoCd, change all SAP application server GL Account determination and Test all scenários.

Dear Mr. Marssel,

Thanks for your reply.

I am of the same opinion that it is batter creating a new company code.

But I was thinking that SAP MENTORS may have some super idea for implementing it, that is the reason why I started a discussion.

I am still hopeful and keeping  eye on this discussion.

Instead of changing the coa, you can incorporate the new gl account in the same coa. Then you may change all account determination and lock the old gls.

Dear Sangram,

Thanks for your reply....

I think its a good Idea...

But existing COA is messed....

No Proper account groups are created...!!!

No proper Number ranges are created...!!!

Accounts are opened haphazardly...!!!

Creating FSV has also became a tedious JOB...!!!

Further User will get confused while selecting G/L account at the time of manual entries...

So will have to create game plan and blue print for the same first,

Please give some more Ideas.

You can create your new account groups. If your current GL are with 6 digit, you may plan for a 7 digit GL code and structure as you like. Create all this in Dev. Then Identify all the account determination to be changed and change in development. Create the GL accounts in quality and move the transport and test properly. Then create the gl accounts in prd and move the transport. Before this you have to train the users on the new GLs.

my point was...  why don't you try it and see what happens.  I'm certain that you'll get an error which should answer your question.  Once you have postings in the company code, there is no way that you're going to be allowed to change the chart of accounts that was used to make those postings.

Dear Mr. Nathan,

With all due respect, Thank you very much.

I thought of simulating this on development server but I was getting some sense of insecurity, that is the reason I invited suggestions and guidance from learned peoples like U.

Thanks once again.

Dear Mr. Sangram,

Thank you once again.

After getting Mr. Nathan’s reply below it sounds “It is not possible to Change COA of a productive company.”

Now here in continuation to your reply above, even if SAP allow changing it, I foresee one last problem and that is how to Go-live with this change as it is very much necessary to keep 2 fiscal year open at the end of first financial year.

Changing COA may be allowed but posting documents in to two COA simultaneously sounds impossible.

I understand that I copy the productive company (that is creating parallel new company code) and make necessary changes in new company code. Only doing this I will be allowed to post documents of previous year in old COA and new fiscal year in new COA.

Thanks once again for taking part in the discussion, further guidance, suggestion, discussions are most welcome.

Regards

Chirag
