Deactivating a material in BOM without deleting it

Dear PP Fellows,

There is a scenario that I have so many common materials which are used in different BOMs. Currently we are using alternative item group concept

but we have to change the materials frequently so that it is very hectic job to active or deactivate the particular material 1 by 1 in every BOM. My                question is that is there any appropriate way so that we can active or deactivate a material on mass level or in master data so that it automatically                active or deactivate in the all BOM in one go whenever we desire so that we can get rid of this every day hectic job.

Kindly help me in this regards .

Regards,

Imran Mazhar

Mark the material as bulk in the material master (MRP 2 View), that should fulfill your requirement.

NB: No need of un-checking costing relevancy in BOM if you make it bulk at material master level.

Read some more about it here (this de-activating at BOM level).

Dear Imran,

I assume that you are using didcontinuation functionality in MMR and BOM.

To change the MMR in mass, you can use MM17 transaction.

To change BOM items in mass, you can use CEWB transaction.

  • Specify the current working area as 'SAP_ITEM'. In the next screen, specify the component in the Item tab.
  • Execute.
  • Specify the discontinuation and follow up grp in materials planning tab.

The other option would be to use BAPI and create a program for mass change.

Dear Nitin Kurhade,

We are not  using discontinuation functionality in MMR and BOM. We are using alternative item and we have to change this one by one in each BOM for a single component where ever an item is linked in the BOM

Hi Imran,

Please try CS20 (or CEWB) transactions for Mass-replacing of component items in BOM.

And, you can also try using Material statuses (configure OMS4) and assign them to the materials.
