Unable to run BEx/SAP GUI 7.30 on Excel 2010 - 64 bit

I'm trying to install SAP GUI 7.30 on a Windows 7 Ultimate with Office 2010 - 64 bit, The installation did not give any errors. However, BEx doesn't seem to have installed on Excel. I can't see it in the addins panel nor in the options.

"The code in this project must be updated for use on 64‐bit systems. Please review and update Declare statements and then mark them with the PtrSafe attribute."

I've read that Office 2010 64 bit is supported by SAP 7.30 onward. Attached are a few screenshots. Please let me know if there is a resolution.

Thank you.

The VBA code in the analyzer.xla can be upgraded to 64 bit with no problems

The issue is that the files BEXADDIN.DLL , BEXADDIN.TLB, BEXAPI.DLL AND BEXAPI.TLB cannot be upgraded to 64 bit they are written to work in a inrprocserver 32 bit.

Once SAP re-write these DLLs and TLBS we would be able to run the analyzer.xla in office 64 bit and Windows OS 64 bit servers like windows 2008 Server R2 or the like.

I can certainly re-write those DLLs and TLBs if I have a beta copy of the 32 bits code, and make it to run analyzer.xla then.

Not sure what is the state of this development from SAP LABS.

Thanks!

As far as I know, SAP will not release a 64 Bit version (since BEx will be discontinued).

Hi Daniel,

this will lead to intersting situations in future as Microsoft will shorten its software cycle (Office 2013 already available) and also shortening support for its products to 2+1 cylcle. BEx ist supported until 2019 + 2 (5+2), because it is delivered with the current releases. And as far as I know there is no timeline for discontinuation of BEx. Bex will be delivered with the next releases also.

BEx 3.5 will now be disconrinued and clients should move towards BEx 7.0.

I personally think SAP has to deliver 64bit Versions of BEx in future or change the "premium" alternative Analysis for Office to a standard version. But this is not planned.

I work on MS Office 2010 (32-bit) and MS Office 2007 and MS Office 365 in parallel on my second notebook.

Well, let's see, which solution SAP will provide.

Jürgen

I fear that SAP won't act as long as Microsoft provides 32 Bit versions... I had problems with some SAP features (including BEx) with 64 Bit version, so I installed 32 Bit (which should be covered by company licenses).

I guess that most customers will be forced to use newer tools (BO).

I think this topic will be discussed in the DSAG Arbeitskreis "Reporting" (don't remember the exact name). I really miss a clear frontend strategy from SAP how the journey will continue.

Two worlds collide: SAP want customers to use/license new BO tools, customer may want to use the new BO tools, but not pay extra license for it.

But: There is no migration strategy for complex BEx workbooks to Analysis for Office yet.

Simple workbooks can be migrated to Analysis for Office.

A lot of open topics in this area.

EDIT: I installed Excel 2007 parallel to Excel 2010 and tried to add the xla manually.

Dear Saneth,

Unfortunately you cannot use Microsoft Office 2010 64bit with SAP GUI 720 / 730.

Please review following note for getting detail information about this restriction?

Note 1442028 - SAP GUI for Windows: No support for Office 2010 64 bits

This doesn't work for me, either:

(Translation: This workbook lost all VBA projects, Active-X-controls and all other programable elements.)

Has anyone solved this problem?
