Hi All,

We are soon going to start working on an implementation project for Automobile Manufacturer. The Firm manufactures Commercial Vehicles, Heavy Engiens (Like for Trains), and offcource Service Parts. From the present study we came across that it will be more about Sub Contracting rather just In house production.

I was planning to do some research over the Automobile Industries. It will be greatly appreciated if I can get some links to the related Conetents. And also how SAP, Particularly SAP-PP works for these Industrie(with case studies). Also need some help over the phases for SAP Implementation(please suggest some links). And also looking for some Business Mapping documents that we initially use to understand how the Client business requirement can be mapped with the SAP-PP.

Regards,

Avinash.

Hi Avinash,

Initially, for automobile industry implementation you need to consider below PP business scenarios.

1.Industry type :- Discrete manufacturing

2.Raw material inventory :- Kanban

3.Variant configuration its depends on your products.

4.Subcontracting (material or Operational)

Pls check this as per your business requirement.

Hi Avinash,

In Best Practices, there are two types of subcontracting, so-called MM and PP subcontracting.  Both of these are found in Discrete Industry set of Best Practices.

To navigate to the set of Best Practices for the Discrete Industry...

  1. http://help.sap.com/bestpractices
  2. Open Industry Packages > Discrete Manufacturing
  3. Scroll down to your favorite country/language.  This will open the Intro: Overview page.
  4. Across the Orange bar, go to Business Info > Preconfigured Processes.
  5. Look for the Accelerators on the right hand side.  Open Preconfigured Processes.  And then open Scenario Map.
  6. Under Manufacturing category, you will find Production Subcontracting, Business Process Procedure #150.
  7. Under Materials Management, you will find Outsources Manufacturing, Business Process Procedure #138.
  8. The key to getting more detailed info is to hit the "i" in the blue circle.  The blue i opens another page with business procedures, powerpoints, and configuration guides.

Dear Avinash,

It appears that this is your first implementation project. If so, you are in for an adventourous journey.

As a starting point, go through SAP's best practice document on automotive and discrete industry.
