Subject:  Data Archiving Parameters - Read-Only DB Backup Path

Hi Experts,

One issue I have a Data Archiving question that I have been troubled with recently :

the customer has installed SQL Server & SAP B1 in two different server .

Running definitely the application the Data Archive Parameters Form visualize the following Warning message :

"Not enough free space on specified drive for backup of read-only database"

The DB BackUp Path shown is  C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Backup  !

How can modify it ?

I'd like to setup another drive with enough free space !

PS :  In this installation the BackUp service is not setup

Thank you in advance for any suggestion

Regards

for those who want to stick with SQL setting and out of space, here is a simple way to solve this out.

Grab an external harddrive, and then format it by using Disk Management, and then right click inside Disk Management, and you can choose to "Change Drive Letter and Path", over there, you can try to mount this partition on the default SQL backup path, which might help u to solve this problem.

For that size of db, better try manual backup and then find help from SAP support to do archive without backup.

Hi Gordon,

I am having the same problem here.  However, it is very strange because the free space on my C drive is 300GB and the database should be only 160 GB.  I do not know why I am having this problem.

Could you be more specific about how to do archive without backup?  I have searched the SAP knowledge base but no luck.

More details :

although I have setup to a new "drive\path" as DB default location (path) of the MS SQL Server Instance the Data Archiving DB BackUp Path shown is already the standard one :

C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Backup

Unfortunately that folder hasn't enough space to host the new DB archived !

Is there the possibility to change the DB BackUp Path in SAP B1 ?

Thanks in advance

Hi Jeff,

regarding this subject I received from SAP Support Center the following answer:

" .... According to page 40 of the Data Archive Guide, the archive wizard will use the default backup path during the MSSQL Server installation.

Unfortunately it is not possible in the wizard to change this path.

...

You could make a request for this functionality to be changed by following the process described in the note 1028874.

For the only way to solve this issue is to create space on the C: drive or to somehow change the default backup path on the MSSQL Server "

Therefore : no chance to set-up the default backup path .

I solved this issue creating new space on the C drive (unbelievable !!!) .

I also tried to change the default backup path on MSSQL Server with NO success.

Hoping is usefull to you

Regards

Gianni

Hi,

please check the registry entry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.2\MSSQLServer

Hi,

I encountered the same problem and by changing the registry setting like discribed the data archiving doesn't show any errors.

Thanks !
