suppress bex migration messages

Hi ,

We have to upgrade from BEX3.x to BEX73. Because of installation issues with VPN users, we want to roll out the new Bex BEFORE migrating the workbooks.

But if users are opening 3.x workbooks with 7.x bex analyzer, they are getting two messages during opening.

1. Do you want to open the 3.x workbook for upgrade? --> click ok

2. 3.x Workbook: 'workbook' opened for Upgrade --> click ok

Afterwards everything is fine. But I think a lot of users will call us because of these messages and will not open the workbook.

Is there any possibility to suppress these messages?

(It is a workbook topic, no query topic, so rsrt cannot be the solution correct?

Furthermore I have no idea about the message numbers.)

Thanks, best regards, heike

    Hi Heike,

The reason is that a report of 3.x format is not completely compatible with 7.3.

When a workbook is once migrated to 7.x format, it cannot be brought back to lower version unless a report program is executed to re-migrate to older format.

When you are working with 7.3 version, it has to be ensured that all the workbooks and queries are migrated prior to install the latest Bex in Application Server to avoid these kind of warning messages.

I don't know how to suppress the messages, but I'd have migrated all the workbooks/queries to 7.3 compatible format before giving the chance for the users to work with Bex 7.3

      Hi Harisch,

ok, the thing with message checkboxes in global settings seems not to work with migration messages. It was never checked.

The other suggestion is also not the solution for us.

At the moment we have the following setting:

"Start Relevant Version for Workbook Opened"

So this would be partly ok, if we would install both BEX versions on the clients, 3.x and 7.x. Correct? There is no "3.x mode" in bex 7.x or?

(We wanted to uninstall the old BEX before, because we also have to install SAP GUI73 and SAP GUI73 is not supporting the old BEX.

Furthermore a lot of users are not using rrmx, but are opening workbooks from BEX directly.

Seems to be a strange requirement?

Maybe our users and IT have to live with trouble tickets for this week.

      Thanks, best regards, Heike
