Need Help - I want to learn HANA but not for development

Hi,

Please treat me a novice here. I have limited knowledge.

I am student of Master of Business in ERP Systems at Victoria University, Melbourne. I am studying it part time.

I also work full time as IT Systems Administrator. I completed a unit Business Intelligence Systems and from there I generated an interest for BW/BI. In general, what I really liked about it is creating infocubes and then exposing those cubes to BI applications.

Later, I was introduced to HANA and I just loved the concept and technology. I wanted to check if I can use HANA to load data from xls or csv and then use BI tools to connect to it. In that attempt, I have configured HANA instance in AWS and started to browse through different articles, guides and videos. Unfortunately, I am finding it hard where to start.

Can someone direct me to right direction?

As an IT guy I don't want to develop applications. I want to learn data modelling (if I am correct for this definition) and administration part of HANA. I also do want to learn few BI applications such as Visual Intelligence, Dashboard Design and Web Intelligence.

Please help me to achieve my goals.

Hi Angad,

Uploading CSV ,Excel  Files to load data using HANA is a part of your question. And Yes you can do that.

1.Launch SAP HANA Studio.

2.Select Import Options, which is present in Quick Launch Tab.

3.Select "Data From Local File" under SAP HANA Content.

4.Click Next and browse your CSV or Excel or any flat files to upload, check the header row if you have so in your file.

5.In Target Table Option,Select the schema which you wish and provide the table name and give next and then finish.

6.Refresh the specfied schema in Navigator Window and  select Tables Folder and you will be seeing the  your new table name loaded with the data from your file.

You can go through some HANA video tutorials , which will be answering for other parts of your Query.
