How to tie images to navigation nodes in Ajax Framework page

Hello experts,

I have built a portal desktop using AFP with all navigation menus, favourites, search and stuff like that. Now I am trying to find a logical solution for a scenario where I need to link all navigation nodes with images ( all entry points in Top level navigation). I could very easily have these images inside my project folder and use them but that would not be an ideal solution as there needs to be a developer to do that whenever there is any new role coming in. The other option that I could think of is KM but again it falls short when it comes to performance as I have to run a component to read all icons from KM first, save them in a collection and then start off with the AFP scripting work to render desktop to users. So can you suggest me a good solution to accomplish this. I am just curious to know if by any means all iviews or roles could be linked with icons and how to read them from my AFP project.

Another requirement that I have is to read descriptions added to any iview which in the world of AFP termed as "navigation node" object. But unfortunately I dont find methods to read descriptions from a navigation node object. Please help me with this as well.

Thanks.
