Different characteristics for different usage

Hi All,

If we have material "XYZ", then while doing GR against PO system should propose characteristics like "A","B',"C" in RR.

and when getting from customer return system should propose characteristics like "E","F" etc in RR.

So for every different use system should give different characteristics while doing result recording.

Can anyone guide us to achieve this in SAP.
