    Hi Simon,

We require Software Components while creating namespaces.

Each Sofware component has certain acess rights to business system etc.

Product: Represents a collection of all versions of a product. A product is a unit that can be delivered, is visible to the customer, and that is installable and renewable. In an SAP environment, a product corresponds to an SAP technical component.

    · Product Version: Represents a particular version of a product.

    · Software Component: Represents a collection of all versions of a software component. Software components represent the reusable modules of a product. They can be upgraded or have patches installed.

    · Software Component Version: Represents a particular version of a software component.

    · Software Feature: Represents a particular aspect of the product functions. It is a logical link between Product Version and Software Component Version.

The data for software components and software products for SAP products is provided by the internal SAP Product and Production Management System (PPMS). SAP provides this master data for updating your local component information. You can add current data to your SLD by using a data import.

To use software component versions in Exchange Infrastructure, first import them from the System Landscape Directory to the Integration Builder (see: Importing Software Component Versions). A software component version is only relevant for the Integration Repository and not for the Integration Directory because the content of the latter is not shipped but configured at the customer site.

you can learn how to import a Software Component by going through this link:

    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/9c/7a973ca83a4601e10000000a114084/content.htm

    +Difference between a SWCV and a component:
Shipment unit for Exchange Infrastructure repository objects.+

Software components (or versions) are part of the software catalog in the System Landscape Directory. For example, CRM 3.0 is a software component version of the software component CRM. You must have already imported a software component version from the System Landscape Directory into the Integration Repository before you can create objects (business scenarios, interfaces, mappings) there. Objects from one software component version are transported and shipped together. It is possible to join multiple software component versions for the version of a product and ship them together.

You can also go through the links provided by Suraj and Priyanka

    I hope it helps,

    Thanks & Regards,

    Hi Simon,

We create SWCV in order to create namespaces under which you create ur objects.

chk this link to create swcomponents:

    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/a4/481955dc9e42c19d5a1bc3b8aead81/content.htm

First the components are created and then swcvs. The swcvs are imported into xi.chk this link:
