Unplanned depreciation Issue

Former Member

For an asset Unplanned depreciation posted on 30.11.2012 which is 5th period in the system.

The amount posted as unplanned is distributed over remaining period.it has NOT posted to a single period.

My question is  Unplanned depreciation post  like this.?

I think it should not post like this.

If yes…. Where we can see the settings in the system for unplanned depreciation?

The details of unplanned posting

Hi,

Please check in OAYR if "smoothing" option is checked. If it is checked, please remove the same to get the desired posting.

Also, please consider the effect of deselecting this option.

Hi,

Smoothing option is checked.

Is smoothing option for both ordinary depreciation and unplanned depreciation?

If we remove smoothing option will it impact Ordinary depreciation(which is posting in a normal way means over the period equally)????

Thanks,

Hi,

Smoothing option is at depreciation area level and includes both ordinary (including manual depreciation) and special depreciation.

The below given is the text from SAP help for smoothing option.

"If you set this indicator, the depreciation posting program calculates the periodic depreciation to be posted by distributing the remaining depreciation to be posted equally over the remaining periods of the fiscal year.

Otherwise the system calculates in each period (based on the total annual depreciation) the amount of depreciation that must be posted from the start of the fiscal year to the current period. The depreciation already posted is then subtracted from this amount. If too little or too much depreciation has been posted in previous periods, the system either makes up or reverses the difference in full during the next depreciation posting run using the catch-up method (depreciation for past periods in a lump sum)."

Please test the impact in a test system by removing the check box. Some differences are bound to happen. Discuss this with the customer to find out it it is ok with them.

HI,

In my case unplanned depreciation is distributing over the remaining period.

I have checked with transaction type 640/641 ..everything is ok.

Please let me know why its distributing and what i need to check?
