Re-Initialization

Is it safe to re-initialyze my delta. I've been having problem updating a couple of records and it has been suggested by a colleague that there are issues with the RFC connections. In all, he suggested that i re-initialize the delta. Note that he was trying to do the same without data transfer but had to kill the job cuz it kept running for hours.

So is it safe to re-initialize? should I do it without data transfer or do I just do a normal init again? What impacts will both have?
