How to study the TERP10 Participant Handbook (853 pages)

Former Member

I have just started   TERP10 and I would be very happy if someone could help me on the followings :

1. Should I read the participant handbook (853 pages) that I got on the first day of apearance according to how the content is listed in the table of content? OR according to a university in Germany where my friend attended the course, they were told to start from unit 5 : "Purchase to Pay Business Process" followed by "Material Planning" and "Data Management" etc... What would you advice ?

2. I followed the practice exercises on WTS along with the solutions in the handbook but, it's like am just following the steps that have already been solved and am wondering if I would need to memorise some of these steps so that when I want to apply for job or when I get a job, I would need to be able to know all these steps by heart?

3. Please give me a detailed advice on what I need to concentrate on, know, memorize at this stage and what I need to prepare for during interview and that would help me in a long term and for me to get ROI on this course.

Many thanks.

George

Hello,

This method got to work for a few colleagues including myself when we were starting TERP10 certification in January 2015.

We only had 10 days to finish the participant handbook (a 796 paged book). And trust me; we all came from different fields hence we knew only few SAP terminologies and little or no knowledge about SAP.

The Trick: Quickly Read and finish the handbook such that before the end of training, you must have completed the handbook twice or trice. (DO NOT worry if you do not understand it the first time, try to go over it again and again)

How Does This Help? The more you go over it, your mind tends to retain various information and you would eventually start understanding the handbook.

The IDES Practicals: Because you have read over the handbook, the practicals become a recap which would not easily be forgotten. It was not as easy to complete as we had access to the portal only when we were in a training session.

*** Even after the exam, try as much as you can to read up about various SAP products, attend open SAP classes and keep updating your knowledge about what you know of SAP ***

That way once you are searching for a job, you would have confidence during interviews.

Have to agree with you 100% on your suggested strategy which is almost identical to the study tip I received from one of my favorite undergraduate instructors, many years ago. I'm planning to take the TERP10 exam in Oct and enrolled in the SAP eAcademy class (TERPe for only US$195 and also includes 3 months access to the SAP ERP training environment).

Prior to running the online training for each section (Finance, Controlling, PTP, OTC, etc), I read the handbook sections a few times -  Read the chapter once, read a second time and highlight, then read the highlighted areas. This method really helped with fully understanding the material and taking the end of chapter tests and actually flying through the online lectures.  Once I  complete the handbook and lectures, I'll spend a couple weeks doing the exercises in the training environment.

There's a lot of material to cover but "take it in small bites."

Cheers,

Dear George & Victorian,

Good to know that you guys are doing TERP10. I appeared for TERP10 last September and luckly cleared.

First of all I wont agree withe concept of memorize the tiopics. Before opening the training manual follow the steps; (TRY TO SEE FROM THE ENDUSER PERSPECTIVE)

1) From user perspective try to note down the steps involved in a business (lets say a manufacturing firm)

  - The process starts from requirement identification, then pr etc.

2) In each process try to note down what all activites are involved

Ex: What process involved in requirement identification.

3) Try to understand the full business process.

4) Try to now understand how the requirements are mapped in system.

By doing so it will be very easy for you to understand each module.

You need to go through the training material as many number of times.

How this is helpful. Let me know if you guys need more clarification.

Hi George,

Can you share your manual  in any way? I have been  looking for the TERP10 material and don't know where to get it. This learning, based on information received provide a good knowledge of business processes.

I also agreed that individual may be interested on a specific medium such MM SD FI or CO, etc.. but It is nowdays good to overall understand how these processes work. So please, if you can share I will greatly appreciate.

Kind regards

Vic

George,

In what module would you like to work? (e.g. Sales and Distribution, Material Management etc.)

OR according to a university in Germany where my friend attended the course, they were told to start from unit 5 : "Purchase to Pay Business Process" followed by "Material Planning" and "Data Management" etc...

Maybe your friend wanted to work in MM. Thus his approach.

2.

am wondering if I would need to memorise some of these steps so that when I want to apply for job or when I get a job, I would need to be able to know all these steps by heart?

The exercises are very valuable.

Practice them many times. Furthermore, IMPORTANT is to understand the purpose, business scenario where you can use these.

Don't think of memorizing these exercises but after re-reading them many times and practicing these in IDES you would remember them.

Thanks for your prompt response.

No. His is taking the TERP10 as a general course as well as me.

Below is what their instruction says in their school :

To maximize the learning effect and enhance your chances to succeed at the SAP certification exam you should comply with the following procedure:

1. Stick with the given order of the lecture notes: That is, start with script part 0 and work subsequently through the course. If you do not stick with that order you will end up in chaos and surely won't succeed in this course

0-Introduction

1-Procurement

2- Material Planning

3- Lifecycle Data Management

4- Manufacturing Execution

5- Inventory and Warehouse Management

6- Sales Order Management

7- Human Capital Management

8- Financial Accounting

9- Management Accounting

10- Enterprise Asset Management

11- Project management

Whereas in the participant handbook (853 pages), that I got it is like this :

Course Overview

Unit 1: SAP ERP and SAP NetWeaver.................................

Unit 2: ERP Basics

Unit 3: Financial Accounting

Unit 4: Management Accounting ....................................

Unit 5: Purchase to Pay Business Process.......................

Unit 6: Material Planning Business Process

Unit 7: Manufacturing Business Process

Unit 8: Order to Cash Business Process..........................

Unit 9: Inventory and Warehouse Management

Unit 10: Lifecycle Data Management ...............................

Unit 11: Enterprise Asset Management and Customer

Service..................................

Unit 12: Program and Project Management ......................

Unit 13: Human Capital Management

Unit 14: SAP NetWeaver BW

1. So, am a little confused as to where will be the best place to start in order to learn logically and get the best out of this course since it is a heavy course.

2.

You asked "In what module would you like to work? (e.g. Sales and Distribution, Material Management etc.)"

After this course, I would like to focus on EHS : Environment, Health & Safety or Logistics

3

Don't think of memorizing these exercises but after re-reading them many times and practicing these in IDES you would remember them.

The WTS that we have access to is not using the IDES samples.
