CRM 7.0 MS Word template – XML tags removed (Office 2010)

Hi,

We are facing the following problem. We’ve maintained MS word templates and created the webservice needed for this. We are able to create a template, and to have it filled with dynamic data from CRM. So far no problem.

However, when re-opening the template document in MS Word (Office 2010), I get the message “Unsupported XML tags are found, and removed”. This is described in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2445060

However, this causes that I cannot edit an existing word template. Meaning that when I made a typo, I have to start all over again.

Anyone dealt with this before?

Thanks

Wim Olieman

SAP had to remove this due to Microsoft losing a lawsuit.  They introduced a new data panel designer and method to fix this, and were in the process of back porting the note down to CRM 7.0

The note you will need to apply to fix this is: 1777018.  However it will change how you work with templates as it uses a new designer instead of XML markup.

I haven't applied this in my CRM 7.0 system yet, due to bugs in the note but I will be looking at this in the next two weeks more than likely.

Take care,

Stephen

Hi Stephen,

Thank you for the advice! I implemented the note (1777018) on our BBPCRM 702 System and it is working fine.

We have to create new templates, but at least it is possible to edit the "XML-Tags" again.

Best Regards

Hi Stephen,

I can confirm this problem. We are on CRM 7.0 EHP 1 SP 7.

We also get the download dialog, if we push the designer button.

- Note 1707600 implemented

- Note 1772062 implemented

- Note 1777018 implemented

- Note 1829834 implemented

- Note 1825865 implemented

- SAP Data Panel installed and IE Add-On is launched

- ActiveX settings activated

The Word-Document opens, fields can be drag'n'dropped but after save no doc template is saved on the CRM server.

Have you solved the problem in the meantime?

Regards,

Oliver

Hi Wim,

Stephen is right. We faced this issue two weeks ago on our CRM 702 system. Either you implement the note Hinweis 1777018 - Office-Integration - MS Word 2007/2010 mit Inhaltskontrollen that Stephen mentioned or you can try the following approach:

On our 702 system after implementation of Note Note 1735356 - Editing MS Word files in CRM Content Management I saw variable GV_WORD_VERSION for the Word version on the the Template Details view (beliefe it was CRM_OI_TEMPLDSG/TemplateDetail) when setting this version to 11 or less the integration switched to using DOC files instead of DOCX. For those Word files the integration with XML still works! Microsoft just changed the integration for the new DOCX that are based on an XML file format.

cheers Carsten

Hi ,

We are on CRM 7.0 EHP3 (SP3) and are trying to create MS word template in MS word 2007.

we got below two issues

1. As there is no XML tag in MS word 2007 we are struggling to get the attributes or fields from Web service that we have created for service request.

2. When we save the template it doesn't get saved into content management.

Thanks

Hi Snehasish,

as mentioned above the XML tags are no longer supported by Microsoft. Stephen pointed out here why:

Did you have a look at https://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1777018 It explains the use of the new technology Content Controls.

Regarding you second issue it could relate to several issues:

  • CRM not in trusted sites
  • Services not activated
  • Word in safe mode

Best set a breakpoint in the save handler of the CM for templates  and have a look. The ICM log could be of use, too. Never had to go that deep, but it should show any access errors.

cheers Carsten

Thanks Carsten..

for 1st issue  : I installed the SAP data panel but it shows as inactive in the MS word .

For 2nd issue : i checked in in SMICM log and saw error pwdf2625:1090 failed: NIEHOST_UNKNOWN and i fixed the error by deleting the invalid entry from content repository. But i am still not able to save the MS word template in content repository.

Thanks

Hi Snehasish,

I think you have to install the "Active Component Framework" ACF from the download center

I was facing the same problem and it helped me.
