Open a workbook through role

Hi Guys,

I was wondering if someone can tell me if it were possible to open a workbook from a hyperlink in the role.

Ok, let me try to explain this better. As of now, all the reports that had been developed at my client were done using a single query. When this query is assigned to a role, the user can see the hyperlink (on his/her page)to the report which is diplayed in the web. I wanted to know if that can be done for a workbook, when I assign the workbook to a role? If so how can is the workbook displayed?

Appreciate your expert advice.

Doniv

You can not open workbook in browser.

Round about for this is create a view and assign it to Role. View can be opend in browser.

Doniv,

I used the word 'Browser' in the context of Web Browser but not Bex Browser. That means you can only open a view in Web browser not the work book.

View also will not open excel appl. with in the Web browser( i guess thats what yor are tring to do as per your above reply) , it only opens with std. web interace.

Hope it is clear.

Doniv,

calling a query from a role is opened in the browser.

calling a workbook from a role is opened in the BEx (Business Explorer).

coming to your question,

Yes. workbook can be included in the role & it creates a hyper link which when clicked opens up the report in Business Explorer.

hope it helps.

Hi Hari,

Thanks for your reply. let me try it out by assigning a workbook to a role (actually I do not have authorization and need to ask the security to do it. Thats the reason I wanted to be sure that it can be done). I will post back as to how it worked out.

Madhukar,

I tried creating a view and assigning it as the data provider in the WAD, but the formatting and the Excel features that are used in the workbook are not carried over to the View. Do you know of a way of doing that?

Thanks guys,

Doniv
