IdM Best Practices for Configuration Management

Former Member

Greetings, all!

Currently our solution's revision control process is entirely manual, which can prove difficult with separate initiative and operations code bases.  As IdM doesn't currently integrate with Solution Manager and plans for future functionality to support this are still tentative, do any of you have experience or suggestions for how to maintain multiple branches?

Thanks,

Nik

Nik,

You've identified a key issue with IdM at the present time.  I know there are on going discussions about linking in with source control systems, but these are currently in the "back log" of items to be addressed.  I don't see this coming until after the new UI roles out next year (My opinion only, not from SAP) The development team also cut the old System Report functionality which could also help out in preserving changes.

As to temporary measures, it all really depends on what you need to do.  Simplest thing is to record all changes in the Documentation tab of jobs and passes, which we all should be doing anyway.  You can also look into exporting you changes and storing the export files in a version control system.

There's also IDM's built in versioning functionality, but honestly, I've never really worked with it.

Hope this helps!

Matt
