Set breakpoint in SAPInst

Hello Community,

i need to know, if possible, how can I stop SAPinst e.g. with "stepeditor" to avoid the startup of an new installed SAP Dialog Instance.

My first Idea was, to move /sap/<sid>/exe  so the SAPinst will abort. But maybe you know a better way how to handle this.

Thanks in advance,

Thomas

Any particular reason?... as long as the instance does not belong to any logon group it should be safe. also you don't have to give the instance any background processes to start with.

Well, i must avoid to start and connect this DI to the CI. This is orderd by customer and I will get a complaint if i not fulfill 🙂

But yes, no "background processes" is the way.

Thx,

Thomas

Maybe an easy option is to rename sapcontrol on the kernel directory. Having said that I find easier to explain to a customer the difference between an available instance and an accessible one

This Instance will be started in a failover Situation in the so called "Business Recovery Solution"

eg. you have 1 CI and 4 DI´s (2 per DC). One DC is offline we have only 50% of the DI´s available. then we start this so called BRS Instance and do fulfill the SLA. (more then 50% of DI´S available)

Have a nice day and thanks for helping

This is quite an unusual request.... In anycase installing a new DI instance take no more than 10 mins if all the parameters files, mounts, requirements are in-place... and If the customer requirement is not to have additional registered instances on the CI then I think is the cleanest solution.

There is no straight forward answer for this however you may try with renaming the instance profile and you have to do it realy fast.

Goodluck.

Step Editor is the tool to be.  I started the sapinst with option "sapinst SAPINST_SET_STEPSTATE=true" before SAPinst starts to execute the installation Steps you can set  a breakpoint at the last step "Starting"  and then skip this last task.

Merry X-mas to all 🙂

Hi,

Yes using the Step Browser is the best solution as recommended by Thomas.

However, Please be aware, the “Step Browser” functionality is not supported officially, so the usage is done on own risk. (Reference - TADM70)
