Is chk in Chkout connected to Central repository

Is chk in Chkout connected to Central repository, i see add to central repository option is greyed out.

If central repository is not available, then we cannot do chk in chk out is that right?

That's right you can only checkin/out when you activate the central repo in options:

Yes, Check-in and check-out are connected to Central Repository. You need to have the Central repository in active state in your repository.

If you have the Central repository active but still the 'Add to central Repository' option is grey-ed out then that the corresponding job is already present in the central repository. So you will be able to perform only a check-out and check-in to update the latest job into central.
