Data Store Object (DSO): couple of generic questions

Former Member

Dear DP BW Experts,

I gathered some literature from help.com on advantages of using a DSO. viz

-DSO is write efficient and read efficient over PSA.

-Data can be loaded faster to the infocube using DTP over Infopackage

-It adds more flexibility to manage the data further.

I can agree to all of these based on some testing I did.

Questions

- What additional maintenance / troubles are likely if I have DSO as an additional object in my datamart for DP (for extracting data from ECC)

- Other than the considerations above, what else should be the high level deciding criteria in making use of  DSO ? esp. when things seem to work fine "functionally" even without using DSO.

Thanks

Hi Guru,

You should consider the total number of records you are trying to load, the volume of the records highly affects the performance of loads using DSOs.

Thanks Pramod,

This whole performance thing is a generic issue applicable to almost about everthing in SAP. The only way out is painful testing and not advisory because no one incl. SAP can/has an answer to "fundamental" questions like these.

Thanks
