Uwl not working on Safari for iPad

Former Member

HI,

I'm currently trying to make the Uwl(standard web dynpro Java) work on Safari for iPad.

When I try to open the Uwl from the Portal(iPad) I receive the message "Sorry, your program/browser is not supported by web dynpro".

Everything is working fine from a laptop with IE, Chrome and Firefox...

Our Portal configuration : NW 7.3 SP8

iPad   :   iOS 6

Fom what I've read on the internet, the configuration should be good enough to make it work.

If you have any idea, please share your knowledge, we have a demo on this next week.

Thanks a lot for your help.

Karim

Hi Karim,

Please try to modify the Supported User Agent property of the UWL iView. As points out in this post http://scn.sap.com/message/13669627#13669627

Hope this helps,

Simon

Thanks Simon for your quick answer.

Isn't it Good enough if I change the propertie "supported user agents" to (Safari, >=3,*)?

This should normally work right?

I am not sure Karim... Safari on iOS is different from desktop Safari as far as I know.

I think the error message comes not from the portal iView, but from WDJ. There should be a SAP Note (or SCN search) explaining how to tell WD to accept other browsers.

I believe I wrote a blog a few years ago hiw to do this. Was about a new version of Firefox

Yes, Tobias is correct. This note explains that error in relation to Firefox:

Honestly I don't think that showing the standard UWL on the iPad is going to be very usable... it was not designed for a touch based device.

SAP appear to be working on a more mobile friendly version of the UWL, you should read recent post it provides a great overview.

To me it sounds like you have hit the first of many hurdles trying to get the standard UWL to work on a mobile device....

Thanks,

Simon

Yes thanks Simon...

Karim I wish it was only as simple as a couple of user preferences settings on a device.... but then what would all those mobility developers be doing?

There is work happening on mobilizing the SAP Enterprise Portal.. .so I suggest you watch out for news on that also.

You might want to follow as he likes to post on those sorts of developments.

Actually, it can be: responsive design, services, HTML5. The problem is that SAP is not offering UWL / workflow as easy to use services. It grew over the years and every product wants to have its own workflow UI, and nobody ever thought of mobility.

Let's see how the "harmonized SAP Workflow Inbox for Mobile, Desktop and On-Demand" will work or if SAP does pull off a classic SAP: works, but only if you combine it with X, on a specific - and out dated - mobile device, when the plugin S is installed, oh, and during blue moon, with german language logon only and ...

In defense of the UWL developers mobile wasn't really on the radar when it was written... Even web dynpro ABAP didn't exist from my recollection.

As for the new inbox, agree we are all hanging out for more info but what I have seen so far is promising. I included one screenshot in my blog but we actually have quite a range of demo shots internally for different devices. Just hoping the infrastructure options are as inclusive of different customer needs as we would like.

Without going into too many details - as part of the next SP of the Portal, we will offer a "Feed" module. This Feed module can integrate into events coming from UWL. The module is written entirely in HTML5 and should work on any HTML5 supported browser. Of course, the obvious target is mobile. The good news - it should work on all devices, and not just when there is a (german) blue moon. The bad news - its browser based, so its not going to be the same as a native implementation. We should be able to start giving out more details as the next SP release date draws closer.
