Keep Group Together (for Crystal 2008)

Hi,

I am preparing a report and am curious about how different 'Keep Together' option works from the 'Section Expert' point of view as well as from 'Group Expert'. I am seeing that when the 'Keep Group Together'  option is being used from 'Group Expert', the data does not repeat itself from the previous page. However ample white space is left at the bottom which I was hoping to fill up with the next set of data without having the data repeat itself again in the next page. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Anup,

The Keep Together option in the Section Expert prevents that particular section from spanning two pages.

The Keep Group Together option under the Group Expert on the other hand, makes sure that for each group the Group Header, its Details Section and the Group Footer all print on the same page. This prevents the group from spitting across multiple pages.

The white space you see at the bottom is because the next group might be large enough to fit in that space and hence starts from a new page.

If you need to get rid of that white space, make sure the Keep Group Together option is unchecked.

Hi Abhilash,

Thank you very much for your reply. There is a clarification I would like to make....In my case I have turned on 'Keep Together' for the Detail sections in Section Expert while turning it off in Group Expert. The net result is, the Group header is printed in the bottom of the page and it is repeated again in the next page while the details for the group are printed below it. Can this duplication be prevented so that the data keeps printing on a continuous flow?

Hi Anup,

The Details Section will always have the Keep Together checked by default. This is to avoid a Page Break between the same section.

The Group Header can sometimes appear orphaned when the section's height is not adjusted properly. Try increasing/decreasing the Group Header section's height, or check the Keep Group Together option.

Do you have a screenshot of the Preview Pane and the Design Pane? And, would you be able to attach the report with saved data so that I can have a look at that?

Change the extension of the report file to .txt to be able to attach it to the thread.

Thank you for your kind response. Please find the report attached. I had some problem renaming the report file. I have exported the report in text format and attached it. Please let me know if anything.

Well, I did not want you to export the report to .txt.

I wanted you to change the reports extension from .rpt to .txt and then attach it to the forum.

The reason you need to do this is because the forum does not accept .rpt files; it does accept .txt files though.
