Space for client copy

Hi Experts

I need to do a client copy for testing from production to quality.

Also, i have seen that the last client copy was done on December 2011, the database growth is around 100 GB since then.

I have planed to do a Remote Client Copy (since I am comfortable on it).

I want to ask how much time will it take to copy 100 GB from Prod to Quality through RFC, so that I can take the downtime accordingly.

Please suggest.

Thanks

Run the client copy in test mode and do the exact test. You will get  the time period.

comaparitively export/import is best for client copy for large databases.if it is a small D.B RCCis better.

Better to do the test run and estimate the time.

down time not require for the test run.

This is all very vague information.

Good, usually a client export is the quickest option, a remote client copy from production is in my opinion a risk (time wise) not worth taking.

Theres not really a way for us to calculate how much time the extra data will take to run during a client copy.... The best you can do is to see the logs of the last run and estimate based on that how much time it could take.

Hi Juan

The reason I am doing Remote client copy is that I have done this before many time, unlike client export/import which i have note done before, so I am not sure.

Also, I dont have old log files.

One Question: Can I run a Test run of remote client copy to determine size of client even when the users are logged in or I need to take the downtime for doing a test run also.

Thanks

It will surely have extra  load on the source system,,eventhough no changes happens to the Data Base

Yes you can run the same in TEST mode and get the details..

Time will depend on the hardware resources you have in the server. client export /import is more advisable

Please go through the note if it helps you
