Simplest way to write portal userid into a URL

Hi all ,

should be a simple question for the gurus here ...

We are using EP6 SP2 .From a JSP I want to get the logged on userid and write it to a URL (for login to an external app) .

Looking at using getUserByLogonID .

Is this the best way ? Could someone post a code example ?
