Load Balancing in SAP Portal 7.3

Hi,

I have installed a SAP Portal 7.3 SP7 (HPUX - ORACLE) it has two instances

1. One is a central system (server A) (SAP+Database)
2. and the other is an aditional APP (Server B) (SAP)

Both has SSO setup (with Active Directory) and works fine in the two servers.

We want to implemetn Load Balancing, so that users only goes to one link for Portal, do you have any documentation for doing this? any ideas? Do I have to use Web Dispatcher or ICM? and if Load Balancing is setup, what could happend to SSO?

Regards

Andy

I am assuming you are using SPNego for SSO? Then you simple have to setup another host principal in AD, the hostname of your LB. To access the portal you would use the LB hostname. For LB, you could use SAP Web Dispatcher. It is easy to setup and free for SAP customers.

Hi Samuli

Yes, I am using SPNEGO for SSO, but what is the diference between ICM and Web Dispatcher, I have read the ICM can allow load balancing, am I right? which is better?

ICM doesn't do LB, the message server does. Web Dispatcher is superior to the LB implementation of the message server and you should use it. In fact with some content, the LB of the message server won't even work. See the attached link for details.
