EHP 4 For ECC 6

    Dear All,

Hello guys , I have fresh SAP ECC 6.0 " Non IDES " , installed on Windows Server 2008 R2 with SQL Server 2008 R2 .

I need to know how I can Install EHP 4 on it , without Solution Manager and without EHPI.

But what I have understand that , to install EHP 4 on ECC 6.0 , I need to use " SUM " Tool instead of " EHPI " , but to use the " SUM " tool , DO I need to Install the Solution manager , in other way , is the " SUM " tool requiring XML File during the installation ????

Hi,

Yes, You need stack xml for performing EHP4 installation. SUM tool will definately ask for it. There is no escape to it.

Hello Rami,

yes, you must generate a XML stack file when moving from ECC6 to EhP5, SUM needs it.

In SAP MarketPlace you can generate a XML stack file for a pure Netweaver system (the 4 core components only - SAP_BASIS, SAP_ABA, PI_BASIS and SAP_BW). You can also generate a XML stack file for applying a Support Package stack. But you can't generate the stack file for an EhP4 upgrade. It is mandatory to use Solution Manager.

Yes, you need SOLMAN to generate Stack XML at Maintenance Optimizer or Transaction DSWP.

Dear Rami,

Regarding your question about to install EHP4 on your ECC6 system, you do not have to use tool EHPi. As of now SUM has replaced EHPi and now in your case SUM is the correct tool.

For detailed information about all the source and target release you can refer SAP Note 1626824.

In your case

Updating to SAP ERP 6.0 including enhancement package 4 for the  following update paths:

-  Updating from SAP ERP 6.0

-  Updating from SAP ERP 6.0 including enhancement package 1, 2,or 3

SUM is the correct tool.

Regarding your question about Solution Manager, it is not possible to skip the step to generate stack xml. Stack xml is required by SUM.

Hello Rami,

SUM is replacing all upgrade tools (sapehpi, SPAM, SAPup, SAINT, SAPjup, SOLMANup, etc), please see note #1589311. (ok, it actually runs SAPup underneath, but you should always use the very last SUM patch available on SAP MarketPlace:

Please use SUM tool for EHP4 update.

SAP Note No. 1626284.

Definately you need to have Solution manager for generating stack XML. Without stack xml,  it is not

recommended from SAP.
