Exploring Hierarchy 7.3 without "Hierarchy split"

Hi,

All the 4 characteristics does not have any master data (cost center, company code, business area, controlling area).

Created company code, business area and controlling area as a external characteristics of cost center.

I was able to upload successfully hierarchy for cost center WITHOUT "hierarchy split" rule (Image is uploaded).

Questions are:

1) I see a symbol/image of external characteristic as text node (picture of yellow characteristic infoobject). Why it should be Yellow instead of normal characteristic green color image?

2) After upload of external characteristic values, where do they store? I was expecting that, these characteristic values supplied through flat file will be inserting as values of respective infoobject. Why don't they available in InfoObject?

I have tried to find answers to above in the forum before posting and no luck. If you have links with respect to BW 7.3 hierarchy and versions of these hierarchies, please share with us.
