SAP Middle ware Version wrt SAP systems

Hi Experts,

Is there a constraints regarding the version (Version of Kernel or Web AS), while we integrate SAP systems (Like ECC/CRM) through SAP PI/XI. For example, can we integrate CRM 7.0 with XI 3.0, or ECC 4.0 with PI 7.3?

Please check SAP Note 1043047 for general recommendations regarding compatibility of XI/PI and integrated systems' releases.

For a more specific answer, it is necessary to gather more details about integrated systems and integration technologies that are used - e.g. what kind of communication is used between CRM/ECC and XI/PI?

Generally speaking, yes, it is possible to integrate CRM 7.0 with XI 3.0 and ECC 4.0 with PI 7.3.

But there is a strong general recommendation and a rule of thumb to ensure that PI has the highest release in comparison to releases of integrated systems, with some exceptions in this rule (refer to SAP Note 1043047).
