SAP UK User Group and Analytics

There was a series of articles this week coming out of the annual SAP UK and Ireland User Conference last week, including this one: "BBC challenges SAP on ‘unclear’ roadmap for BusinessObjects". The article mentions that "these sentiments were mirrored in our recent membership poll with the vast majority of respondents stating they did not understand the benefits to them of the Ariba, SucessFactors and Sybase acquisitions."

Having presented a keynote on analytics at last year's UK user group conference (that at least appeared to go well!), I'd be very interested in getting more background to this, if anybody can help...

There's certainly been lots of attempts to communicate the roadmaps (e.g. http://service.sap.com/roadmap and many, many other places).

Reading between the lines in this particular article, is the problem rather that the roadmap is unsatisfactory, rather than unclear? And if the benefits of all the new technology investments are not clear to existing users, might that be part of the dissatisfaction? (since there's inevitably a trade-off between investment in the latest ways of doing things and investment in previous platforms, especially when I believe there has been a very big and real change to how best to do things?).

And do people think this is this specific to the UK (if so, why?), or did it just get more exposed? Do UK analytics customers participate actively in this SCN forum? If so, has it failed them?

Many thanks in advance!
