Difference between a Speacial Ledger and New General Ledger

Hi,

I am a learner to SAP FI functional area. Currently we are analysing the approach for financial reporting for the business. Business was actually using special ledger previously but now going with New General Ledger. What is the difference between a Special Ledger and General Ledger or New General Ledger. What will be the impact on the business if we migrate the functionality from spl ledger to New GL.

Hi ,

Specail purpose Ledger is maintained for reporting purpose. If comapny has different requirement of reporting based on different either different accounting principles or countyr specific the these extra requirement are capture under Special GL  when you use SAP upto 4.7 C .

But SAP has intorducted new GL concept  where you define different ledger instead of keeping separate Special Surpose GL . there some more feautures of New GL like online CO-Fi reconcilition , Document splitting , Removing some year end and months activies .
