BI Portal Java patch Issue

Our BI Portal is experiencing a performance issue when the BI Backend export to excel job runs and SAP recommended to apply SP Level 12 our BI java is 7.01 but the problem is we are at SPS9 in our BI Backend system

What happens if we just upgrade our Portal without upgrading our Backend BI system

Any suggestion our BI portal and BI backend systems are two different hosts. BI Java is pure java based and BI backend is Just ABAP(7.01)

Any suggestion is welcome

    Hi Satish,

If the BI Server is not upgrade as per the SAP recommendation. There will be inconsistecy in the data you export.

System might also hang/ behave strangely.

    Hello Satish,

SAP always recommends that our backend system and frontendend systems should be in sync and the SP levels should be on highest lavel.

If you are getting this error then I suggest first you should upgrade upto SP12 fisrt and then try to export. Else the system wil be hang or craetes another problems.

      Hi Satish,

Technically you can have different SPS level for your ABAP and Java stack, for example if you splite you ABAP and Java stack. However SAP strongly recomend to have same SP level for ABAP and Java Stack ( particulary for all components of uses type BI-Java and ABAP ).

    Hi Sathish,

    Hope you are doing good.

I would like to mention the below points for you to keep in mind during this activity:

    1. Always use the CTC Template for BI Java for configuration (check SAP NetWeaver 2004s Masterguide available at http:/ for details). Manual configuration

or configuration via report RSPOR_SETUP should not be done for SAP NetWeaver 2004s.

    2. To ensure a smooth configuration process, make sure that you have deployed the very latest patch from SAP Service Marketplace at for CTC Template for BI Java.

    3. Read note 983156 ('BI configuration w. Template Installer') and make sure the necessary prerequisites are given on the ABAP side.

    4. After running the CTC Template for BI Java, run SAP NetWeaver BI Diagnostics & Support Desk Tool as described in note 937697 to verify your installation. In the "Advanced mode" of the tool, go

to the "Configuration checks" tab and check for potential red traffic lights. To resolve the issues shown there, check the "Remedy" column and follow the instructions given there.

    5. The overall process is described in more detail in note 917950 ('SAP NetWeaver 2004s: Setting up BEx Web'). Make sure to go through the note and also have a look at the document attached to that note, showing the overall process in a set of slides with screenshots.

Please have a look at the below which gives more information on this:

Thank you and have a nice day :).

    Kind Regards,
