webi report created on olap universe, execution taking more time ,while bexquery is executing in a fraction of sec ?

What is the main cause of it ?

in simple words, because the WebI engine needs to flatten the cube and then do all the calculations

is right on this one. If you want your Bex query to run faster, it is better you use BICS connection for WebI so that your query is not flattened and accesses Bex directly which will result in better performance than OLAP universe. (You need to be BO 4.0 to use this type of connection. It is the best if you are on BO 4.0 SP4 or SP5.)

but my client is using xi 3.1, in  this version only it should work properly help me in this .....
