MM MRP Valid from Date

Hi All

I've got a Externally Procured Material that has no demand as it currently does not exist in any BOM's.

The material is created as active status for both plant and global fields.

We will start to use this material from 01.01.2013 and I want a fixed Saftey Stock of 1 EA.

However I dont want MRP to create a purchase requisition for the Saftey Stock until 20.12.2012.

I thought I would be able to set the valid from date on the material to 20.12.2013 and then the MRP would exclude this material form the planning run until this valid from date is reached - however this is not the case???

Can anyone advise why MRP would plan this material is the valid from date is greater than today.

(There's no demand so the planning horizon is not considered).

I've found a work around I can use by scheduling a change to the material in MM12 for 20.12.2013 which will change the MRP Type from ND to PD but ideally I would like to simply maintain the Valid from date.

Is there a setting in SPRO that determines if the valid from date is considered in the MRP calculation?

Thanks in advance.

Chris
