Could not connect DBM due to: Could not start DBM server. -24867,ERR_SHMRESLOCK

Hello,

in our prod system with MaxDB 7.8.01.16 it's impossible to logon with database studio or dbmcli.

We always get the following error:

Could not connect DBM due to: Could not start DBM server.

-24867,ERR_SHMRESLOCK: Resource 'ParamAccess' was locked during the last 600 seconds (in the end by process 17760282)

We have no errors from any user and so we let the system online.

What could be the reason for this error.
We can not found anything in the log's.

SAP xsearch, scn & google give no answers, too.

any suggestion?

kind regards
Chris

Hi Christian, I have exactly the same issue ...  My solution is to kill the process too and I would like to know if you had followed the recommendation of Zielke and validate at the same time if you had solved your issue by killing the process ?

Yes, we have killed the process and do an upgrade later to a higher version.

Hi,

can you find out what process name that pid locking the file belongs to?

In general, please schedule an upgrade to MaxDB 7.8.02.

7.8.01 is really old and known to have some bugs in the dbmserver shred memory handling.

The Process is the DBM Server.

sdb 17760282        1   0   Nov 11      -  5:44 /sapdb/KWP/db/pgm/dbmsrv -P 0000000a0000000d0000000e00000011

I would suggest to kill that dbmsrv process as it seems to not do anything any more.

And again, please plan to upgrade to 7.8.02.28 to get rid of these issues.

Hi Christian,

sdb 17760282        1   0   Nov 11      -  5:44 /sapdb/KWP/db/pgm/dbmsrv -P 0000000a0000000d0000000e00000011

If you look at the timestamp of above process it is running since Nov 11. Haven't you restarted your database instance since Nov 11 ?

If the answer is YES, you may blindly kill this process as it zombie and will not harm your running instance.
