External material Group - Reports

Dear Guru's

We need to group the materials into two categories - like major group and minor group for materials .

Ex : material A10023 belong to Major Group - 19 and minor Group 24 .

I have mapped in SAP as Major category as Material Group and Minor Category as External Material Group - its the right way to achieve this or we can go with product hierarchy ?.

My concern is i need to get the list of materials based on minor group i.e External Material Group - Any standard reports are available or guide to achieve this .

Thanks in advance

Regards

Anandh

    Hi,

Use MARA table and pass your external material groups in EXTWG field to filter the materials. This is the easiest way than any report.

      Hi Anandh,

There is no standard SAP report which can show the materials based on external material group.

You can either create a query (sq01) on MARA table or a custom report to pull the data. I think it is easy to create the query and give it to the users, they can run it in production, its as simple as standard report.

      Regards

What is the logic behind this "major" and "minor" group classified under material group?

What is that 19 and 24? Is it total no. of material groups as of now kept under "major" and "minor" category?

If you are grouping the materials, directly you can give the material groups and in all std reports wherever material groups fields are there, you can make use of the "range" faility to extract the reporting.

refer below link for better understanding of material groups

      Hi Arul,

i need the report based external material groups not based on material group - 19 & 24 are material group code and external material group code.

Logic ? we need to categires the materials into two different groups . same material lies in two groups. .ie category and sub category

      Regards

      Anand
