MOPZ - Technical Usage for SAP Materials Management (MM)

Hello,

I would like to know if you can help me to understand one thing about Technical Usage and which ones I must choose for some particular requirements! I´m doing an upgrade activity in our system, from SAP ERP 6.0 to EHP6, and as you know for this I must choose the Technical Usages during the Maintenance Optimizer task, that we want to apply in our system, each Technical Usage corresponds to a set of Software Components, for instance, the Human Capital Management corresponds to the following components:

EA-HR 606

EHP6 FOR SAP ERP 6.0 - ABAP Technology for ERP EHP6

MDG APPLICATIONS 606

SAP APPL 6.06

SAP HR 6.04

This information is contained in the sap note 1566412 - Enhancement package 6 for SAP ERP 6.0: Required SWC

My collegues of sap functional team, they asked me to apply the EHP6 on HR area (components EA_HR and SAP_HR), on Financials (components FI-CA and FI-CAX) and also for MM - Materials and Management module, but I don´t know which Technical Usage I must select during the Maintenance Optimizer (MOPZ) to apply the EHP6 for MM because I don´t know which components in system that corresponds to MM area. I guess it is the Central Applications, but I really don´t know.

Can you help me please to clarify this?

Nice to see that there are still people taking their time to phrase a post that contains all information needed and shows that research was already done.

I too would guess that MM is a core ECC functionality and you would therefore need to select Central Applications. But i also cannot easily find a note or document that clearly points that out.

So here is another approach to check it out:

- MM03 is a MM transaction

- MM03 calls program SAPLMGMM [call Menu->System->Status->doubleclick SAPLMGMM]

- SAPLMGMM is part of package MGA [Menu->Goto->Properties]

- MGA is contained in SAP_APPL [doubleclick MGA]

So SAP_APPL is the software component needed for MM, and if you want EHP6 you need to apply SAP_APPL 6.06. SAP_APPL is indeed a ECC component and mandatory to upgrade anyway.

Thank you for your help! So tell me another thing, if you said that the SAP_APPL is the software component needed for MM module, so can I concluded that is not necessary to apply the Central Applications and instead of that, I only apply the Human Capital Management which already contains that component SAP_APPL 6.06?

The Central Applications contains the following software components:

EA-APPL 606

EHP6 FOR SAP ERP 6.0 - ABAP Technology for ERP EHP6

MDG APPLICATIONS 606

SAP APPL 6.06

... and as I described in my first message, the Human Capital Management contains:

EA-HR 606

EHP6 FOR SAP ERP 6.0 - ABAP Technology for ERP EHP6

MDG APPLICATIONS 606

SAP APPL 6.06

SAP HR 6.04

So.. can I conclude that? I mean, can I only apply the Human Capital Management, because it contains in itself the SAP_APPL 6.06 too!

Can you really deselect 'Central Applications' in the MOPZ at all? I was sure, it will be automatically selected. Everything has dependencies to Central Applications...
