NW 7.3 AS Java Support package upgrade pre-requisite

Hi,

I'm planning to do the support package from NW 7.30 SPS4 to SPS7 for a java only system. Before starting the upgrade, whether the backup of database alone will be sufficient? or do i need to take backup of any directories?

Thanks & Regards,

Saravanan

You always need to be able to restore the database AND the filesystems, always. No matter if you are applying support packages or not. This means regular filesystem and db backups and a database running in logging mode.

This is especially valid for java systems because the filesystem also holds the java code. You should backup:

    - the database

    - the kernel dir (/sapmnt/SID/exe)

    - at least the j2ee directory (/usr/sap/SID/J0x/j2ee)

    Cheers Michael
