Concept of Leading Change Number in PLM 7.02

Hello Friends,

Can someone help me with the concept of having a leading change in Engineering record type.

I can only be able to change the object only using the leading change number created. This concept is not followed in ECR/ECO.

Its little confusing to understand this process.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks & Regards

Jo P

Hi Jo,

the leading change number is a means to indicate with which primary (automatically generated) change number changes that have been requested and approved with an engineering record are to be implemented.

Customizing allows to either inherit the leading change number for use for implementing the changes of the change items or to have them have their own change numbers and hence effectivities.

Does that help?

Hi Ulf,

Thank you once again for your answer.

Is it really required to have that leading change number or can I have it removed. So I can use the ER number to make changes to the objects. Having it removed, will it allow any implications later during the process. I think I can customize the same to remove the same.

Hi Jo,

in principle you can also manually create a change number with the same number as the ER number, or automate the same. You can NOT implement changes with the ER itself. A change number is mandatory in case you want to process historic changes (with effectivity).
