Guys,

It’s been a great learning experience here with you guys. Your help is incredible. I really appreciate your help from the bottom of my heart. Every single complex question, there is a simple answer. Super job, thumbs up. You deserve it.

I have compiled some of the cool question I have found here on the forum, it would be wonderful if someone could compile it again with proper answer. I hope newbie like me will benefit from it. Thanks to the people who have posted these questions and answered.

Thank you

JR

1. Exactly what is master data? I mean only attributes are termed as master data or else it includes text and attributes?

Master data includes Texts , attributes and hierarchies which are maintained using any info objects.

Masterdata is any data or constructs that is applicable across multiple business transactions.

2. How will u drill in a report? suposse we are reporting on Infocube and we require more detail data? That infocube is loaded from from Ods which is having document level details?

This is a bit difficult to explain. Drilling down means going into more details and drill up is to a aggregate

level of details for example if you include characteristic 0calmonth in your report you will see monthly

transactional report and there if you want to drill down and if ocalday is also available for this info

provider then you can just drill down to in context menu.

ODS stores most granular level of data which can not be further drilled down.

-

Create another report on the ODS with the same set of characteristics as the one built on the cube, with

document details in it..

Then use RSBBs transaction to create a Jump Query from the Query on the cube to the detail Report on

the ODS.

-

3.How will we use update modes ? full update ? initialization? delta? I request u to explain with example?

is it possible to load delta ? actually i read document, i did not get it clear?

Full update loads all the data available from source.

Initiilization loads the available data from source system and marks the current loading times in sourcesystem

Delta. Loads the data changes occoured since the last delta or initialization .

a)suppose i am having some data in R/3 and i am loading data first time into BW then what mode we use?

You can eighter use full upload or intialization deltaload

b)suppose iam having some data in R/3 and iam loading data first time into Bw and later day on wards we load daily data which mode we have to use?

Initializationon first day

c)in above two cases when we use initialization?

Explicitly saying it’s the second case. But you can also use initialization in firstcase

-

A full update eg: We had to load historic data till the last month which was already there in the system we

used a Full Load.

Delta Load : When there are any changes to these records in the source system which are already in the

BW system, the changes as well as the new records are captured and loaded in a delta load.

Init Load: This can be done after a Full load without any data transfer (optional) before you start Delta

Loads.

-

4)If I loaded data into infocube with out using the PSA option? suppose if we get errors then where we have to check the data to rectify?

Its not possible to rectify the errors if you don’t load using PSA. You can maintain only in source system

and reload

: We could check the source system data in Extarctor checker RSA3.

5)why we cant do currency conversion in transfer rules?

I think we can do it using some routines but not really adviced( I don’t know much in this regard)

6)Difference between transfer rules and update rules?

Technically saying

transfer rules are used to transform data while loading from a datasource to a info source that means

while loading the data from source system in to BW staging

Updates are used when loading from infosource into a datarget such as cube or ODS.

-

You have same options in both..but regardding when they are used..

Changes applicable to all the data Targets the infosource can be mapped to are made in Transfer

Rules..

Changes specific to a data target are made in transfer rules..

-

7)what is the difference between the start routine and transfer routine and update routine?

Start routine is used in transfer rules and update routines to perform any tasks before the rules are

applied and to work with the compleate request package.. for example if you want to convert the

currencies of all the records or if you want to delete some specific records before loading

Transfer routines are small convertion programs in Transfer rules

And same with update routines in update rules

-

In the start routine ..for EX :

I don`t need records with certain char value ..I can filter out those records in the start routine..

Upsate routines and transfer routines are used to fill up a calculated value into a specific field..

-

8)when we are loading a crash occurs, then from which point to load? how u load?

Depends on where the crash occours.

You can reload from the PSA.

9)what is compounding infoobject?

Compounding info object is an info object which can be ideified an meaning full only when compounded

with some other object.

Ex:- if you want to identify the products from seperatly from 2 different cost centers but the have same

product number(which is key) then you compound them with cost center then the key of a product is

paired with cost center number which gives a unique value..

If you want to be more clear you can compound month with year so that you can differentiate august/2002

and august/2003.

-

There is a seperate record for a unique combination of those 2 info Objects..

EG: City and Country.

-

10)difference between filters and free characteristics?

filters are used to filter down values in the report and free characters are characters which the report user

can use while navigating the report for drilling down or for filtering dynamicall in runtime

_______________________________

Filters are used to restrict the query to certain characteristic values..

Eg : City filtered to Washington will give results for Washington only..

Free characteristics are the ones you can drill down and get detail information..

Eg: City in free characteristics can be drilled down on to get data for all cities..

-

11)difference between calculated and restricted key figures?

Calculated key figures are derived by using formulas or functions while restricted keyfigures are actually

a subset of alredy existing keyfigures derived after applying some filter or restrictive conditions.

-

Calculated Key figures are calculations you make based on existing Key Figures

eg: Price * Quantity

Restricted Key Figure is Restricting Key Figure values by a value of a characteristic..

Like Sales Key Fig Restricted to Washington will give you sales for Washington only

-

12)difference between filter and restricted keyfigures?

Not much but filters are applied only with in a single report but once created a restricted keyfugure can

be reused in another report.

13)what type of errors occur in reports? How to solve the problems?

There can be a few errors like Info Object not found ..You need to hit the repair button and check the

infoprovider..This is the only one I can think of right now..

14)advantages of ODS?

Granular data, used for infosets.

15)advantages of INFOCUBE?

Better performance in query navigation,Aggregation of data in multidimensional model..

16)how much data can be loaded per load?

17)what is PSA architecture?

Persistent staging area which is a transparent table where the data is a exact replica of the source

system.

18)what is GAP ANALYSIS?

The difference between the available resources and the requirements..

19)difference between Navigationa attribute and display attribute?

I explained nav attribute in the other post..

Display attribute cannot be used on its own it can just be displayed along with the Main

Caracteristic..Hence not possible to restrict or drill down on it..

20)how we do master data reporting?

By Using Info Object as Info Provider

21)what are look up tables?

22)what is retrun table?

23)how to minimize the source time from delta initialization?

24)which one would be transported first infocube or query?

InfoCube

25)difference between hierarchies and navigational attributes?

Hierarchy is a tree structure .

EG: US

-

WAS

-

NYC

IN

-

DEL

-

BOM

Navigational Attribute is an attribute to an InfoObject which can be used in a query as an independent

characteristic by itself to navigate, drilldown or retrict in query definitions..

26)what is classic infoset?

Infoset is a join of 2 tables based on certain common fields..(Its an Intersection)

(It is an infoset created through SQ03 and not through RSA1 and they differ in many aspects.)

27)what is partial delta?

28)what is convertor or conversion?

I guess you need to get the complete question here..

R u refering to Conversion routine??

29)In LO where do we see R/3 side tables?

All tables can be seen by transaction SE11.

To know specific table names go to SAPGENIE.COM

It has a list of all the major tables in different areas.

30)what happens if we load transaction data before loading master data?

With proper settings in InfoPackage we can load transaction data without loading master data..but it

maight take more time since the sids get generated while loading and also there are problems while

activating an ODS without all the master data present..

31)suppose we changed some master data then how they have to be updated?

Run the Attribute change run after the reload or change.

32)what is repeated delta?

There is nothing as repeated delta but there exists 'repeat of last delta'. When a delta fails and you need

to retrieve it back from source without data loass u use repeat of last delta

33)how do we do delta in generic extraction?

Creating datasources over Tables, Views or using custom extractors.

-

we can use numeric pointer , calday , timestamp as deltas..suppose you are doing GDE and there is a

field creationdate, then you can select calday and provide creation date in the input box,Once you done

with the initialization it will set currentdate for the next delta reference...

34. What is user exit? Please explain with example. (Extraction/Query)?

35. Explain the detail steps on FI, CO-PA extracions?

36. Tell me the steps on LO-Extration?

1. Activate DataSource

2. Maintain Extract Structure(you cannot create new Extract Structures!)

3. Generate DataSource/ Repl. DataSource

4. Activate Extract Structure

5. Delete Setup tables

6. Check Extractor Update (optional)

7. Perform Extractor Setup

8. Define periodic V3 update jobs.

Create InfoPackagein BW for initialization ..

Create InfoPackagein BW for periodic Delta

9. Delete Initialization Table ‘LBWG’
