Retrieving Original file content & Using KPro

hi All,

We are in need of being able to display the images attached to a DIR in a custom developed report. I figured we will only be able to retrieve the 'Original file content' (Ex: JPG, GIF), from the DataBlock (ORBLK) field used in DRAO table. Please correct me if I am wrong.

However, the issue here is - It seems we can take advantage of the DataBlock field only if 'KPro' is not selected for a Document type, which in-turn stores the documents in SAP DB and NOT in a storage category.

But, the client wants to be able to use a separate DMS Content server to store the documents which is possible only using the 'KPro' check for the document type & Create a Storage category.

Q-1): Any suggestion on how to retrieve the 'Original file content' (Ex: JPG, GIF) even while using 'KPro' and thus benefiting the provision of Storage Category?

Q-2) Any Max. Storage limit on SAP DB if we go with option of Storing the Documents without KPro (this will solve One purpose - retrieving Original file content)?. I remember reading somewhere that SAP recommends not storing more than 100000 files in DB if we are using SAP DB as storage category.

Please suggest.

-Thanks

Hi,

regarding question 2 you can limit the possible filesize for uploading in transaction DC10 for each document type. This only works if you do not use KPRO and so the flag 'Use KPRO' is not set.

Dear Christoph,

I have already seen this message in your other posts. Thanks for sharing the info & your patience.

However, We are checking on a workaround solution for my Q-1. Your replies really help.

Hi again,

thanks for the nice feedback. I'm trying my best

Regarding question 1, could you please provide me and the community more information what kind of input data you have for triggering the download of files?

Best regards,

Christoph

hi Christoph,

After I Check-in the Original file, I am using CV02N for downloading the file. I believe the trigger the system takes the Original file path, from where the file is uploaded & not the storage path to Open the file. I tried deleting the Original file - both from Original file location, and the DMS Server, and when I use CV02N, the file still opens. So - am not sure from where the system is retrieving the data, even though the original file is deleted. This is a bit confusing to me. But, is working - LOL.

-Thanks
