Which Version of Bartender needed for our SIMPLE requirement

Former Member

Hi,

We are looking at Bartender for our label design solution. Currently we are not sure which license/version we should get: Basic or Professional. We are thinking about using the bartender *ONLY* to design label for ZEBRA printers, load the design file to SAP smartform and/or SapScript and print it using SAP print engine.

With those requirements in mind, which version would do the job you recommend? We are thinking about Basic. Let me know if it is true or otherwise.

Thanks

John

Hi,

If you're going to use Zebra printers you don't need any additional software to design your labels.

Not only that SAP provides the Printer Device Types (LZEB2) to print on Zebra printers , for some time now, Zebra CO provides a list of device types that allow you to print Zebra Barcodes.

You only need to design your label in Smartforms and then print it on a Device with a Zebra-Compatible device type.

Hi

If you want only to create initail label design files, then integrate the design files in to SAP I would suggest basic edition. Simply create the designs the use the print-to-file through the Zebra driver. This will creat ZPL text files which you can then integrate (with a bit of tweaking) directly in to SAP. You can download fully functional highest level on free 30-day trail from Seagull Website, try it and if it works simply buy a licence after 30-days if you want to do additional designs.

If you may want to take SAP data and route it through bartender then I would sugget skipping Basic/Pro version and go for Automation or Enterprise Automation editions. (these versions come with Commander which can be used to elegantly interface directly with SAP_.

Thanks Robert for your input.

I downloaded the trial version and once you fired up the Bartender it allowed me to choose which version of Bartender I would like to design a label on. Unfortunately for Basic and Pro I dont see any thing under the File menu that says Print to file or any indication for it whatsover.

The nice thing about this trial or demo version is it lets you to flip back and forth between versions. So, since that Print to file was nowhere to be found when I was on Basic and Pro, I decided to go one level up to Automate.

NOw I can see under File there is a selection that reads "Export Printer Code Template". I just selected it and it looked like that might be the one that I was looking for. It lets you select which Print Sytem you want to ouput the label design too. Among the selections available for me, I can see SAPScript-ITF which is the one we need to upload as standard text to SAP???

BTW, the trial version is of 10.0 whcih I think is the latest and greatest. Not sure if things have changed since you used Bartender last time.

Thoughts??

Hi Frans

In the lower portion of the print dialogue box, under the "options" tab there is an option to "print to file" when you tick this box and hit print it comes up with further dialogue asking where to save the .PRN file.

Hi

That's odd, they must have removed it for trail version, It's present on my licenced V10.

Here's another way.

Download the and install the seagull printer driver from the Seagull website for the printer you are using. Then in printer properties in driver setting go to "ports tab choose add new port, then choose Local Port, and call it "File"

Now when you print to the printer it will route output to a file called "File" it will create a text file called "File.prn" I can't remember where it saves it to, If you then do a search for "File.prn" you should find it.
