SAP Startup issue.

Dear All,

We have a ERP6.0 EHP5 system. We had taken the backup for the system and wanted to restore it on another server to be checked if the backup has been taken successfully. The backup is taken for the whole file system and as per plan was to be copied to another system to check for its consistency.

After the system was copied we just had to change the hostname and IP address as per the new server. We also did the required changes as per SAP Note:8307. Later on Database started but we are not able to bring up the application.

Few observations we have made are that SQL is not connecting in <SID>adm and is giving the error ORA-12547: TNS.

Listener is up and running and R3trans is also running fine.

As per the log dispatcher is not starting.

You need to have the same hostname of source and target servers to correctly start up you SAP system. In addition you need to adjust oracle files: listener.ora, tnsnames.ora in ($ORACLE_HOME/network/admin for ora<sid>) and tnsnames.ora ($TNS_ADMIN directory for <sid>adm user). Also check /etc/hosts file for correct name resolution.

      Dear Premlesh,

All the entries have been maintained in the services file and the default profile.

We are also having the issue of not being able to connect to SQL Plus fro <SID>adm.

      PGBIBPCDEV:pedadm 66> sqlplus "/as sysdba"

The tnsping command is not working as desired.

    output?

But for your information the DB is up and running and listener is also up.

is this single host? DB+CI in one physical server? by mentioning it is up, you mean startsap command produced running db but the dispatcher do not start? Or you start the db manually?

all sap entries (sapgwxx, sapms,,,,,etc) have been copied to target system?

R3trans -d is working fine but the dispatcher is not coming up as shown in logs.

    can you attach the trans.log?

We also did the required changes as per SAP Note:8307.

Can I assume that the profiles has been adjusted correctly( hostname)?

    * ERROR => DpIPCInit2: NiServToNo of sapdp00 failed ((null), rc=NIESERV_UNKNOWN)

is ther sapdp00 in services file?

what is the output of sappfpar check pf=/<profile_directory/<profile>?

It seems to be old (16 Oct 2012). To understand your current state after many suggestions please restart server and then try to start SAP system again and provide output from commands here.

    Hello Vishal,

As far as I undestand you:

    backed up your SAP System.

->Copied the backup to another host

--> Now trying to start the SAP system from the backup.

The procedure you are doing is called SAP System Copy and should be done via SAPInst tool and it's options Export/Import. You will face tons of difficulties the way you are trying to do it.

I strongly recommend that you find another way to make sure your backup is consistent.

    Best Regards,

    Pavel Pavlov
