High availability with parallel web dispatchers

We are successfully running a SAP Web Dispatcher (Version 7.45.0) in each environment (Dev/QA/etc) to connect to multiple back-end systems but the dispatcher itself remains a central point of failure - something which I'd like to resolve if possible.

I have read High Availability of the SAP Web Dispatcher and the only suitable option would be the High Availability with Parallel Web Dispatchers option which I am looking further into.

We also have the use of a pair of F5 hardware load balancers available but everything I have read around this from a F5 perspective relates to replacing the dispatcher with F5's rather than complementing it.

I have also contacted F5 directly to see if they have any support in this area and got the following response:

"Enhancing Web Dispatcher deployments. We also see a fair number of customers that use LTM to provide automated HA for Web Dispatcher. Essentially, deploying multiple Web Dispatcher instances and using LTM to load balance them. F5 does not have a Sales presentation or Deployment Guide for this use case, but the configuration is extremely straightforward"

Has anybody in the community had experience with F5 load balancers or similar when setting up HA for Web Dispatchers?

    Hello Stephen,

I used F5 in one of my projects for http load balancer and single popint of entry. Since they were using F5 for all of their web appllications as a central tool they deployed SAP apps on F5 too. There is no problem about the usage.

Customers It department was handling about HA. I am not sure about it.

There are links on F5 pages for applications for netweaver and high availability.

When you are using sap web dispatcher you can use virtualization and put HA on virtual platform since web dispatcher is a small system also.

Hi Yuksel and thanks for your reply,

I'll take a look at the links provided and hopefully they will be of use. Did you retain your SAP webdispatchers or replace them with F5s?
