Programs running in parallel processing mode hang

Hello,

Late this summer we completed the Kernel 7.20 DCK upgrade in all of our systems.  Since then we have had intermittent performance issues with jobs that run in parallel mode.  The job hangs and we are forced to cancel and restart.  Sometimes the second run is successful, sometimes it hangs again.  The only consistency we have been able to see is if we remove the parallel processing from the variant and rerun the job, it completes every time.  We have seen this on several different jobs (that use parallel processing mode), some in house developed and some standard SAP code.

The 7.20 Kernel Installation OSS note 1636252 indicates to replace the rfcexec.exe and rfcexec.sec files in step 4.2 installation on Windows, however, it specifies this is for Java and Dual-Stack installations only.  The system we are seeing the issue with is our ERP system (ECC 6.04 running on Netweaver 7.01) and is an ABAP only stack.  We also confirmed our RFC library (librfc32u.dll) is using the appropriate version (7200.1.201.9197).

Is anyone else experiencing any similar issues now or in the past?  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Deb

Hi All,

Sorry for the delay in getting this updated, but wanted to share our solution.  We patched the kernel to 300 to resolve the hung parallel rfc connections. We learned from others of issues with the 201 patch, which was the one we had recently applied.  As soon as the kernel was patched, the parallel processing rfc jobs completed within normal time frames and performance was restored.

As a side note, we also found during the Rolling Kernel switch that there was is a known enqueue synchronization issue, (see OSS note 1745473).  So please keep that in mind if you are running a HA configuration and on Kernel 7.20 patch 313 or lower.

Thanks,

Deb
