Dear Kamlakar

your question is to "general". EHS contains a number of submodules. (e.g. GLM, SVT, Waste, DG, HSM, etc.); Per modules the strategies etc. are different.

Legacy System: this can be a SAP or a Non SAP Source. Depending on case different approaches are required. Second: if SAP source does have "higher" release as SAP target more problems can come up; If SAP source is lower release (e.g. SAP Enterprise 4.7 => ECC 6.0) there are less problems.

EHS is not "stand alone"; the main integration point is with MM; you need to consider EH&S and MM topics in most cases first. Later on you can concentrate on EHS topic; As this matter is quite complex no general answer is possible.

PS: MM part is needed as well for GLM topics

Hello Chrostoph,

Thanks for reply, you are right is was generic question.

I want to know master data needs to be trasnsferred from Legacy system (non SAP) to SAP EHS for following sub-modules in EHS

1. Specification mgmt

2. Dang goods management

3. Global lebel management

4.product safety.

Actually I want this data for Freight Forwading company, where we are going to rollout EHS.

Dear Kamlakar

if you check:

http://help.sap.com/erp2005_ehp_06/helpdata/en/a5/3adda043be11d188fe0000e8322f96/frameset.htm

you will get the list of EH&S submodules:

EHS-BD

EHS-SAF

EHS-HSM

EHS-DGP

EHS-WA

etc.

which you need to understand (what is the purpose , set up etc.)

First you need to analyse the "legacy" system. You need to analyse: What is "there"? Then you need to map that to EH&S structure. The most important topic is EHS-BD (specification management). Here a number of data need to be placed in. EHS-SAF is related e.g. to "MSDS" and other reports. Global Label Management and Dangerous goods topics need to be analyzed "late" in a project (and for GLM you need to check the topic if "Label View" as part of Material Master data)

Let's try a "simple" example. In the legacy system you find a "material" named "Gas" or "Petrol" etc. This material "Gas" is "chemistry" and therefore part of EH&S. This type of data element need to be mapped to a material in SAP ERP. Therefore you need to define the "correct" matrial type. This is one of the key steps in preparing the SAP ERP (to use EHS you need in most cases basic set up in MM, SD, CA, DMS). Then you need to make the link to EH&S by creating a "REAL_SUB". Now it depends on the data in legacy system regarding what is the next step. In most cases the name "Gas/Petrol" will be estalished in EH&S by an identifier (linked to a specification of e.g. "REAL_SUB"). Then if you analyse the legacy system and you find further data regarding the "GAs" like: it is "liquid", does have a "flash point" etc. you can map these data elements to the "value assigment types" in SAP EH&S. Therefore after heavy analysis of source system you can generate "links" to EHS. After customizing of EHS you can try to generate "upload" files from legacy system so that you an use EH&S import functionality. In most cases now data migration is done.

Depending on situation: you need then may be to acquire "content" (like SDS template, etc.) so that the business can use the new EHS solution better.

Regarding dangerous goods topic the SAP EHS DG module is "simply" used based on the data in EHS-BD to generate the dangerous goods master". Normally only in rare cases "reports" (Global Label Management is related to generate "lables" and to print them; a label is in EH&S a report) is migrated form legacy system to EHS.

A set up of EH&S in such a way that it might be useful for a freight Forwarding company can take up to one year and more because first you need to decide on EHS& basic set up, then you can do data migration and the you can use the data in SAP ERP processes (e.g. MSDS distribution DG check)

As there are many types of legacy system (e.g. oracle based and others) and each company is using its own "EH&S Setup" there is not "clear road" to achive the objective / goal.

Therefore you should try to get an experience consulting company "on board" which can analyse legacy system and may be generate a "blue print setup" for EHS and then perform the data migration.

What could be the best approach to migrate SAP EHS data from ECC to S4 . Especially Specification data.
