Folks, I'm starting to look at working with the SUP and was told by a friend that the cloud version is not as capable as the on premise version. First of all, is there an on premise version of the development platform at all? Then if so, what are the differences in capabilities.
Thanks very much, - Frog
Hi Frog,
I hope this is not too confusing but there is only one version of SUP ( the software) at this point in time. Customers and Partners who "paid" for the license can download it from the service marketplace just as any other software. When they install SUP you are being asked about the license that you want to apply wich is either a Developer Desktop License or any of the enterprise Licenses.
I beleive your friend is an employee of such a Customer or Partner and therefore has access to such a license and the software.
The Developer Center in turn has taken the exact same software but offers regular people ( not associated to a Customer or Partner that bought SUP ) a license for development purposes (no production use) only. This in turn comes in two falvours, a 30 day trial that is completely free of charge and where everything Server and Mobile SDK are hosted @ a cloud provider, and a unlimited license where the server is hosted in the developers AWS account that he has to pay for. The Mobile SDK is downloadable via the SCN download catalog for this version and can be installed on the laptop. The limitation on this license is that it can only be used by a individual developer ( no company, partner ) and only with 5 devices at a time.
From a software perspective you get exacly the same thing with exactly the same capabilities. Only from a licensing perspective it is diffrent.
I would very much be interested in understanding why your friend thinks there are differences in capabilities.
Best
Ingo

Thanks Ingo. The developer platform architecture you describe is as I thought it was, at least until my buddy, who never personally worked with the tool, confused my understanding with his assumption probably based on old or mistaken information. I will ask him about that. It's great to hear that the 30-day trial is completely free and I will sign up shortly. The tools look excellent.
Thanks very much, - Frog
