Hi, i have few basic doubts, can someone help me with this

I need to know how to bring in Master data before we work on any info area and is it necessary or a must that we bring master data for any info area that we work on.

and is the method tranfering from rsa5 to rsa6?

and once we bring in master data do we have to activate it and then create the infosource and assign source system for the info source and then load the data?

Can someone explain me what we do when we start working on a info area fresh on r/3 and bw side.

There seems to be a bit of confusion...

Master data is not required to work on an InfoArea. Master data is loaded to an InfoObject of type Characteristic.

Transferring from RSA5 to RSA6 is for data sources to transfer them from the business content version to the active version so that they can be used to extract the data.

It is advised to load and activate the master data before loading the transactional data so that the SIDs are craeted and loads can be faster.

The general process of loading master data to an InfoObject is the same as a transactional load: Replicate data source, assign to InfoSource, create mapping and InfoPackage and execute load.

InfoAreas are only in BW. Application components are in R/3 and BW and they serve to group data sources.

Hey,

Guys can you help me with this.

i have to bring in SPL data from 1 sourcesystem into a cube.

i understand about generating extract structure and creating of the infosource but where to start on BW side.

about the Cube, which cube do i use and do i have to load the master data for SPL? before i start working on the cube? this is summary totals ZGLT1T (contents are almost the same as GLT1 table) Can someone help i am confused as of where to start on BW. and any material regarding SPL cubes and information in BW side is appreciated. i do have the SPL r/3 documenttion.

Hi!

In BW first we activate the masterdata info objects and load the maste data in to them.

then create cubes based on your requirements( i gave a list of cubes already available for FISL but i think you need to create some cubes on your own). cubes are not used for masterdata.

after that create update rules to load from infosource to cube.

then map the infosources to datasources that you have generated in R3 and replicated in BW.

then create infopackages and load the data into cube by scheduling them.

then ofcourse we need to create reports based on requirement.

Vijayanti,

There is no concept of InfoAreas in R/3. Let it be any data source (Transaction or Master), if its not available in RSA6, you have to

R/3

1.Transfer that from RSA5.

2.Generate the data source in RSA6.

BW

3.Replicate the data sources in BW.

4.Assign InfoSource (can be direct/flexible).

5. If direct, assign the info source as an infoobject.

6. If flexible, after assigning the infosource, you have to create update rules in the infoprovider area of modeling.
