BW BEx Query designer upgrade from 3.5 to 7 version

Hi,

We are currently using BI 7.0 Version and we still uses 3.5 Query Designer.

Can anyone let you know what pre-requisites and process we need to follow to upgrade BEX Query Designer from 3.5 to 7 version.

What steps need to performed to upgarde BEx Query designer.  Also appreciate if you can share the additional features provided in Query designer 7 version compared to 3.5 version.

Did you faced any issues while converting these 3.5 query to 7.0 version, My client is planing to convert them now.. We are in the phase to convert the query.. So can you please tell your experience..?

What are the risk involved while migration the queries from BEx 3.5 to BI 7.x.

Hi Pankaj,

I do not see there is any risk involved..

You can use the old query as it is also..

just you have to be careful in terms of development..if you open 3.x query into BI7.X it will get converted automatically..

But again there are options by which you can restore back to 3.5..

But in case you have to convert,you have to open each and every query in the 7.X designer.

That is additional effort during upgrade..

if you need to migrate the queries from 3.5 version..

just install the new query designer ..

also open the 3.5 query into BI7.0,OR THE new one and it will get converted automatically..

Dear Sajid,

You need to migrate/upgrade your Queries to 7.0 not the QD. you can just open the 3.x query in

7.0 QD and reave this. this will change the query from 3.x to 7.0.

Update your GUI to 7.02 version or latest.

Its backward compatible so you will be allowed to use the 3.x tools.

But you need to migrate your queries from 3.5 to 7 at some point

And once you open your query in 7.x designer it wont allow in 3.x

Hi Sajid,

BEx 7.x suite coexists with BEx 3.5 suite, it doesn't actually replace it. 3.5 objects needs to be migrated to 7.x version to use them in 7.x tools. for the new features you can find them easily in sap help or scn.
