Calling BTCTRNS1 failed - EHP5 upgrade

Hello friends,

I am upgrade our system from ECC6.0 to EHP5 (Solaris/Oracle). I am currently in the downtime stage of the upgrade and I am getting the below error in the MAIN_SWITCH/JOB_BTCTRNS1 phase.

Error Msg: "BATCHJOB BTCTRNS1 FAILED: Calling BTCTRNS1 failed - repeat phase"

Error Msg from troubleticket_log file:

4 ETQ233 Calling function module "SUBST_START_BATCHJOB" by RFC

4 ETQ399 JOBNAME='BTCTRNS1', REPNAME='BTCTRNS1', VARNAME='', BATCHHOST='RCOMSAPECCRD1', IV_SCHEDEVER=' '

4 ETQ234 Call of function module "SUBST_START_BATCHJOB" by RFC succeeded

4 ETQ399 Returned JOBCOUNT='12061100'

2EETQ235 Call of function module "SUBST_START_BATCHJOB" by RFC failed (error-status "27")

2EETQ261 Start of batchjob "BTCTRNS1" failed

Verified all the /etc/hosts file for hostname (considering case sensitivity). moreover there are no logs in SM21, ST22 and in SM37 for this particular job. Also I am able to sucessfully execute the BTCTRNS1 report using SE38 tcode.

Any pointers towards a solution would be appretiated.

Best Regards,

Prashant

Hello Prashant,

The error

Call of function module "SUBST_START_BATCHJOB" by RFC failed (error-status "27")

seems to indicate some hostname issue.

This error is comming, if the batch server cannot be determined correctly.

Check in SM51 and ensure that the hostname in the instance name and hostname match:

Please refer to the notes
#129997 Hostname and IP address lookup
#962955     Use of virtual TCP/IP host names
how to use virtual hostname and what is the correct hostname resolution

I have to correct my colleague:
/etc/hosts is not needed for SAP

It is essential, that you maintain the hostname resolution on the place
wich is used.
If DNS server is used, maintain the data ther,
if DNS server is not used, you have to maintain the /etc/hosts file.

Paul

Hello Paul,

Thank you for your positive response. You certainly helped me to locate problem area.

All the hostname settings we proper but still I couldnt proceed. As a last try I restarted by SAP instance and the error was resolved.

Thank you once again.

Best Regards

Prashant
