Hi,

I am interested in getting certified in any of the SAP areas, well is there any certification exam from SAP like NETWEAVER, BW, WORKFLOW etc which i could take up without the SAP classes and could someone explain me the process.

Should i always partner up with SIEMENS OR SAP LABS for taking an exam or could i directly take up any of the exams?

Best Regards,

Hi!

you can directly take up the EXAM if you are confidant. And there are no obligations from SAP AG. But it is always good to take some classes before you atempt. And if you can not success in attampt you need to wait at least 3 months to take the second and for third it is nessesary to take a course.

At least in my case they didnt ask me for any experience or prerequisite of attending any courses.

with regards

Hi,

Thanks so much for your inputs, well i have 6 months of SAP-BW exp and an overall IT exp of 3 years, but i am kind of confident with the basic concepts.

So in that case you mean to say i could directly enroll for an exam without any course, well which is the best site where you could enroll and how much is it for writing the exam?

Also as it is very expensive to take up a course from SAP LABS or SIEMENS is there a cheaper way through which we could take up a course, i am in bangalore now and any nice institutes?

What is the pass mark for SAP-BW for an instance.

Hi Prthivi,

You can register for the exam online: Check this and follow on with the exam you are interested in.

https://websmp204.sap-ag.de/~sapidp/011000358700002412512003

The fee is usually $500 and I think the pass mark is 70%.

Hope this helps...

Hi,

Thanks for all your inputs and any suggestions on books for the preparation?

Also Mr Bhanu, i have noticed for BW Certification there are several options and i am confused which one is that i need to pick.

1. There are 2 under technology consultant

(SAP NetWeaver´04 - Business Intelligence Technology-SAP BW 3.5)

SAP NetWeaver - Business Intelligence Technology

(BW 3.0)

2, 1 under solution consultant (mySAP BI - Business Information Warehouse (2002)

3. 1 under delta certification mySAP BI - Business Information Warehouse (2002) (Delta 2.0 to 3.0)

Please update me on this. The one under solution consultant sonds more apt, please correct me.

mySAP BI - Business Information Warehouse (2002)

I think the best option is this one: http://www50.sap.com/useducation/certification/curriculum.asp?rid=420

This is for Solution Consultant SAP NetWeaver ‘04 – Business Intelligence and is based on the latest version BW 3.5(booking code C_TBW45_04). The other exam: mySAP BI - Business Information Warehouse (2002) is based on BW 3.0 (booking code C_TBW50)

Hope this helps...

Hi,

Thanks but the first one mentioned my you is for BI and does not look so relevant for SAP-BW Tech Consultants. How different is BI from BW or is BW a part of BI.

Well, dont you think c_tbw50 THE RIGHT OPTION.

SAP is gradually making the shift from the term BW to BI. For an example take a look at our forums. It is called SAP Business Intelligence (BI) not Business Information Warehouse (BW).

I read the following somewhere (do not remember else would give you the link)

<b>SAP BI versus SAP BW: What’s in a Name?</b>

A frequent question that we get at SAP events from both customers and partners is, “What is the difference between SAP Business Intelligence (SAP BI) and SAP Business Information Warehouse (SAP BW)?”

Well, the answer to that has changed over time as SAP’s strategy has evolved. In the beginning, we had SAP BW. Shortly after that, SAP BW was bundled with other components, such as SAP Workplace (and later SAP Enterprise Portal) to form a licensed product that was named mySAP Business Intelligence (mySAP BI), to distinguish between the overall solution and the underlying SAP BW component.

With the development of the SAP NetWeaver, it was determined that the business intelligence component should become part of this platform. A decision was made to retain “Business Intelligence” as the name of the underlying component, because this name is more descriptive of the scope of the product, including as it does data warehouse management, extraction, transformation and loading capabilities, business modeling, business content, OLAP analysis, data mining, business insights via alerts and reporting features, and planning functions with the new BW-BPS.

Within SAP BI, SAP BW remains the core product, providing the ability to control, monitor, and maintain all processes connected with data staging and processing. However, this is a technical distinction that is expected to end with SAP BW 3.5, the business intelligence component of SAP NetWeaver ’04. Future releases are planned to have only the “Business Intelligence” designation, such as SAP NetWeaver Business Intelligence 7.0, which is expected to be the name of the component in the next release.

What does this mean to you? You should start thinking of the product as “SAP BI” and try to use the term “SAP BW” only when you are referring to a specific release, such as SAP BW 3.1 Content or SAP BW 3.5. It’s going to be a tough adjustment, but if you start now, it will be easier when the “SAP BW” term goes away completely!

Hi,

Thanks for the info, so in this case i could take up any of the two exams mentioned by you earlier to become a SAP-BW TECH CON.

I tried to award you more points but points got exhausted at the kitty.

Hi,

I have gone through the site and in one of the enrollment forms i found out that it is a mandate that one should have gone through Atlas a three week training course with SAP or its training partners.

Hi Pruthvi,

It is not mandatory to go for SAP training if u have atleast 2 yrs experience in the respective module.

In any case if u are not able to complete the exam with in 3 attempts then u must go for training.

Ramesh
